The 31st edition of the North Carolina Wiffle Ball Tournament will return to Smithfield’s Community Park on July 13-14.
The entry fee for the slow-pitch event, which features four-man teams in a double-elimination format, will again be $80. Bats and balls will be provided, as will be umpires for all Games. Championship and runner-up trophies will be awarded as well as for tournament MVP and all-tournament team Selections.
This year marks the 38th consecutive year for this tournament, which was called the Kenly Wiffle Ball Tournament for its first seven years before evolving into the N.C. State Tournament in 1989. It is the oldest state championship in the country and the second oldest Wiffle Ball Tournament in the world, behind only the World Wiffle Ball Championship in Midlothian, Illinois.
