School to host craft, vendor fair

SMITHFIELD — Cupid’s Craft and Vendor Fair is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, in the gym at Smithfield-Selma High School, 700 E. Booker Dairy Road. More than 50 vendors will offer a variety of items, including home decor, jewelry, clothing, beauty products and cooking supplies.

Proceeds will help send a group of Smithfield-Selma students to Denmark.

Small-business seminar is Tuesday

CLAYTON — A free seminar on small-business marketing is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, at the Johnston County Workforce Development Center, 135 Bestwood Drive. Topics include media presence, branding and websites. Register online at johnstoncc.edu/sbc.

Documentary series to explore childhood matters

SMITHFIELD — A screening of “No Small Matter,” part of a documentary series on early-childhood issues, is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, at the Howell Theatre, 141 S. Third St. To register for the screening, visit partnershipforchildren.org.

Other documentaries in the series are “Resilience: The Biology of Stress & The Science of Hope,” April 9; and “Broken Places,” June 11.

Library to host writers group meeting

SMITHFIELD — The Johnston County Writers Group will meet from 6 to 7:45 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, at the Public Library of Johnston County and Smithfield, 305 E. Market St.

Artist and writer Deborah Dunn, who will speak, is a published author of Christian self-help with Simon and Schuster, Also, she has released two historical mysteries based on the archaeology of the Lost Colony and Jamestown under her own publishing brand, Five Rivers Press.

Neuse Charter plans open house

SMITHFIELD — An open house for prospective students and their parents is scheduled from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, at Neuse Charter School, 909 E. Booker Dairy Road. Neuse Charter is the only K-12 charter school in Johnston County.
