School candidates to speak in Clayton

CLAYTON — “Platforms at the Podium,” a forum for Johnston County school board candidates, is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, at The Church @ Clayton Crossings, 11407 U.S. 70 Business West.

Candidates will have a chance to introduce themselves and their platforms.

Valentine show, dance at Legion post

CLAYTON — A Valentine Show and Dance is scheduled from 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at American Legion Post 71, 1300 Old U.S. 70. For tickets, which are $20 per person, call 919-519-8756.

Micro Democrats to meet

MICRO — Democrats in Micro Precinct will meet at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Micro Fire Station, 321 U.S. 301.

JCC board committees to meet next week

SMITHFIELD — Standing committees of the Johnston Community College Board of Trustees will meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, in the Pines Boardroom on the Smithfield campus, 245 College Road.

Candidates’ forum is Feb. 19

SMITHFIELD — A forum for school board candidates is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, at the Johnston County Agricultural Center, 2736 N.C. 210.

A question-and-answer session will take place from 7 to 8 p.m. A meet-and-greet with candidates will follow. Doors will open at 6:30.

Through Feb. 17, Johnstonians may submit questions for the forum at forms.gle/NNDq3RgMCctrkMAh7. Questions may not be directed at or to a specific candidate.

The forum is a project of the Junior Women’s League of Smithfield.

Action board to meet

SMITHFIELD — The board of directors of Johnston-Lee-Harnett Community Action will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, in the conference room at 1102 Massey St.

Woman’s Club to hold to hold fundraiser

CLAYTON — The Woman’s Club of Clayton will hold “Tricky Tray/Pick a Prize” Friday, Feb. 21, at the Civitan Club building, 340 McCullers St.

Here’s how the fundraiser will work: Multiple prizes will be on display, and participants will place raffle tickets in bags at the items they hope to win. Drawings for prizes will begin at 7 p.m.

Doors will open at 6 p.m., and the cost at the door is $10 for 50 raffle tickets, with additional tickets available for purchase.

The night will also offer door prizes, a 50/50 raffle and what the club calls Lottery Lady.

Chili cook-off at First Street Tavern

CLAYTON — The Clayton Civitan Club will hold a chili cook-off from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at First Street Tavern, 115 E. First St.

Clayton Center to host ‘Our Town’ performances

CLAYTON — The Carolina Youth Theatre will present Thornton Wilder’s “Our Town” at 7 p.m. Feb. 27-29 at the Clayton Center, 111 E. Second St. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for students. For tickets, call the box office at 919-553-1737.
