College trustees to meet

SMITHFIELD — The Johnston Community College Board of Trustees will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 2 in the college’s Wilson Conference Room. For more information, call 919-209-2011 or email sbmillard@johnstoncc.edu.

Blood drive scheduled

KENLY — A community blood drive will be held from 1:30 - 6 p.m. Friday, May 3 at Piney Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church, 2201 Piney Grove Church road. Donors can walk-in or register at www.redcrossblood.org with sponsor code “Kenly.” For more information, call 919-202-3277.

Relay for Life planned

SMITHFIELD — The Johnston County Relay for Life will be held from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, May 11 on the Smithfield-Selma High School football field.

Opening ceremonies are planned for 10 a.m. Survivor and caregiver recognition laps, all-day entertainment, team crafts, raffles, food and luminary services will continue through closing ceremonies at 10 p.m.

Money spent and raised during the event will go to the American Cancer Society. To register a team or for more information, call Beth Giradi at 919-210-2151.

Jimmy Capps concert slated

BENSON — Country music artist Jimmy Capps will perform at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, May 11 at Crossroads Church, 301 S. Walton Drive.

Capps is a Nashville session guitarist whose credits include George Jones’ “He Stopped Loving Her Today” and Kenny Rogers’ “The Gambler.” A Benson native, Capps will be honored at both shows, which will also feature The Malpass Brothers of Goldsboro. Following each show, Capps will sign copies of his book, “The Man in Back,” at 3:30 and 8:30.

Tickets are free and are available from the Benson Chamber of Commerce.
