DURHAM — Ida Pittman Cox, 88, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2018 at her home.
She was born in Kenly to the late Elmer C. Pittman and Elsie Stancil Pittman. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cox was also preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, James R. Cox; brothers, Carlton Pittman and Harold Pittman; and sisters, Ann Kucyk, Jessie Sisk, Marjorie Cooper and Rebecca Pittman.
Mrs. Cox was a longtime resident of both Durham and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She was a member of Guess Road Baptist Church where she joined in the early 1950s. She retired from the General Telephone of the Southeast Company as a communications engineer. Mrs. Cox loved golfing locally at Occoneechee Golf Club, as well as at Gator Hole and Azalea Sands Golf Clubs in Myrtle Beach. She was a member of the Hole-In-One club in Myrtle Beach.
Mrs. Cox is survived by her daughters, Jane C. Judd (Jere) and Rebecca Miller (Denny); grandchildren, Stacie Nichols (Don) and Amy Gottheimer; great-grandchildren, Kyle Nichols, Keaton Nichols and Kaden Nichols; brothers, Andy Pittman (Pat), Jimmy Pittman (Janice) and Wayne Pittman; and sister, Dorothy Barnes.
The family will received friends Saturday, Dec. 22 at Clements Funeral Home in Durham followed by a funeral service with the Rev. Daniel Tilley officiating. A graveside service followed at Kenly Cemetery in Kenly.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Durham Rescue Mission, 507 E. Knox St., Durham, NC 27701.
