SMITHFIELD-Johnston County public schools, Neuse Charter School and Johnston Community College will be closed Thursday and Friday, due to Hurricane Dorian.
"Johnston County Public Schools puts student's safety first, and appreciates the collaboration with Johnston County Emergency Services in determining our decision for school closings, said Nathanael Shelton, executive director of communications. " The County of Johnston has declared a State of Emergency ahead of Hurricane Dorian, and expects to experience tropical storm force winds."
Shelton said North Johnston Middle School will operate as an emergency shelter beginning on Thursday, September 5th at 1 p.m.
"All Johnston Community College classes are canceled and college events are postponed," said Traci Ashley, senior director, college communications. "The college will evaluate weather conditions and decide about weekend classes on Friday."
