Johnston should support school choice, address bullying

My opinion is that I am a Republican teacher and I am for busing in every county. I believe that all children should have an equal chance, regardless of whether they live in poverty or not, and many Republicans feel this way. Busing has always been done since the 1970s, and that is all I can speak to since I was born in 1970. While it may not be feasible, I think that busing would improve all schools.

I am a member of the Smithfield-Selma High School Alumni Association. I would like to see bullying addressed in all schools. I believe there should be a process and procedure for dissemination of information from the journalism departments, specifically, to protect students.

I hope that the newly elected school board members of Johnston County Schools will work to raise test scores, lower the dropout rates and not allow teachers days off to protest anything.

The reality is that not every child is allowed to go to their school of choice in Johnston County for whatever reason. Not all Republicans support this policy and some believe all children should be allowed to go to their school of choice or remain in their neighborhood schools. Also, not all people can afford to transport their children to their school of choice, if they are allowed to do so.

Thank you for letting me give my opinion as a certified public school teacher of 20 years in North Carolina and a member of Johnston County Republican Women and a person who loves teaching her students!
