KENLY — The Manheim North Carolina auto auction on Bagley Road in Kenly has been chosen as the Kenly Area Chamber of Commerce’s Business of the Month for March.

“Manheim North Carolina was selected as KACC business of the month because of the outstanding support they continuously give to the Kenly community,” said chamber President Kathy Forbes. “Not only are they the largest employer in Kenly, but their contributions to support events in the area are unparalleled. They are by far the largest donors to the Kenly Area Chamber, sponsoring events like Christmas on Main and the annual golf tournament.”

The auction is responsible for bringing in visitors from throughout the nation each week and also contributes further to the local economy by employing 75 full-time personnel and more than 125 part-time workers.

More than 2,000 vehicles are offered for sale each Monday, with each one passing through one of the sales arena’s eight auction lanes.

The business was founded by Kenly native Kenneth Aycock, who bought about 100 acres of farmland in 1984 and started Aycock Auto Auction.

Ellie Johnson, Aycock’s daughter, took over as general manager in 1997. She was followed by Kevin Cook, who became general manager in 2016.

The business was purchased in 2000 by Manheim, Inc.

“We thank you, Manheim, for your presence in the Kenly community and for all you do to give back,” said chamber Executive Director Monica Davis. “Your support and participation is truly appreciated.”
