SELMA — The third annual Polar Bear Run 5K through Uptown Selma is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19.

Registration will be held on race day at the corner of Webb and Waddell streets.

Participants are invited to run with their ‘dog, cat, bird, lizard, goldfish or whatever,” according to Melissa Dooley of Selma Parks and Recreation.

Cost to enter is $10 per runner and pets are admitted free of charge. Owners must clean up after their pets if nature calls, and all pets must be leashed.

Organizers said the 5K run is not a sanctioned competitive event, but a timer will be available for those interested in knowing their run time.

Proceeds from the run will benefit the Little Free Libraries of Johnston County.
