FOUR OAKS — Newton Grove’s police chief was charged in a domestic violence case in Johnston County on Nov. 28.

Johnston County sheriff’s Capt. Jeff Caldwell said Everett Franklin “Frankie” Harrell, 48, of Four Oaks, was charged with assault on a female after officers responded to a call at his house. He posted bond and was released from the Johnston County Detention Center in Smithfield.

Caldwell said the arrest came after deputies responded to a report of a domestic argument at Devil’s Racetrack Road.

The address is listed as the home of Harrell and his wife. Caldwell described the incident as a disagreement between spouses.

The Daily Record was unable to reach Harrell for comment on the case.

Harrell has held the chief’s position in the Sampson County town of Newton Grove since April 2004.
