SMITHFIELD — The Junior Women’s League of Smithfield is accepting new members for the 2019-20 league year.
Members have completed more than 7,600 hours of service in Johnston County and raised $71,000 for league-supported programs since the group was founded in 2016.
Women who are at least 22 years old and interested in serving Johnston County through volunteering may apply to join.
“JWL members are some of the most passionate and giving women I’ve ever met,” said Laura Hill, vice president of membership. “When you look at everything our membership has accomplished since the league was founded, it’s all possible because our members work together for the good of the league and our county. These women are constantly raising the bar, and then pushing it even higher.”
Potential applicants are asked to attend one of two upcoming new member interest meetings to learn more about the league, meet the board of directors and members and learn about the membership process.
New member interest meetings will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday at Simple Twist Taproom & Bottle Shop, 228 E. Market St. in Smithfield, and 6-7:30 p.m. Monday at Boulevard West, 104 W. Main St. in Clayton.
At both meetings, the league will collect school supplies to be donated to My Kid’s Club. Anyone who brings school supplies will be entered to win $10 off her membership dues.
Additional information and applications are available at www.jwlsmithfield.com.
Prospective members can apply for a scholarship. Scholarship recipients will be relieved of their financial obligations for the 2019-20 service year. The scholarship application deadline is July 19. The membership application deadline for the 2019-20 league year is Aug. 1.
