SMITHFIELD — Mayor Andy Moore signed a proclamation honoring the American Legion’s 100th anniversary and recognizing March 15-17 as American Legion Week in the town of Smithfield.

Moore presented the proclamation to Smithfield American Legion Post 132 at the group’s Thursday meeting.

The proclamation identified the organization composed of “nearly 3 million men and women who have served their country with honor during one of the wars since the 20th century.”

Moore’s proclamation also calls upon “all citizens, companies and organizations to join with us in commending the good works of this organization as an expression of appreciation for the wartime and peacetime services of our Legionnaires.”

“I want to thank the Legionaires for their service to our country while in the military and for their continued service to our community,” Moore said.
