Spartans’ Council named to NCBCA All-District team

Smithfield-Selma senior point guard Anthony Council was named to the North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association All-District 5 boys second team.

Council, a Fayetteville State University signee, averaged 25.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.2 steals per game in 22 games. The 5-foot-9 guard was also named to the 3-A Greater Neuse River Conference all-conference team. Council, who scored 51 points against West Johnston on Jan. 11, finished his career with more than 1,300 points.

South Johnston junior C.J. Ray, the Greater Neuse Player of the Year, was named to the third team.

Clayton senior Asia Todd was named to the NCBCA All-District 5 girls first team after averaging 24.2 points and being named the Greater Neuse Player of the Year. She scored more than 2,000 career points.
