Spartans shut out by Cleveland

CLAYTON — In its second 3-A Greater Neuse River Conference game of the season, the Smithfield-Selma football team was blanked, 62-0, by Cleveland on Friday night.

The Rams jumped out to a 35-point lead in the first quarter and put up 13 in the second to go up 48-0 at the half. In each of the final two quarters, Cleveland (7-1, 2-0) scored a touchdown to coast to the victory.

The Spartans will welcome South Johnston for another conference game on Friday.
