Neuse Charter soccer wins third straight

PRINCETON ­— The Neuse Charter varsity girls soccer team traveled to 1-A Carolina Conference foe Princeton on Thursday, March 14, and came out with a 3-0 win. The Lady Cougars (3-2, 2-0 CC) beat the Lady Bulldogs (3-1, 1-1 CC) for the fifth straight time over the span of the last three years. To go along with its third straight win, it was Neuse’s third straight shutout. Dargan Harris provided two goals and Courtney Wojtkowski scored the other. Wojtkowski also had an assist. Katie Cole notched an assist as well.

Three the magic number for Lady Bulldogs in conference win

ROSE HILL — The magic number was three for the Princeton High girls soccer team Tuesday, March 12, at Union High as junior Veronica Blackman got a hat trick leading the Lady Bulldogs to their third win in as many contests with a 10-1 victory.

In claiming their inaugural 1-A Carolina Conference game, the Lady bulldogs had seven different girls score goals against the Lady Spartans (0-3, 0-1 CC). Blackman also had an assist while junior Kiana Brewton netted two goals. Senior Cabrea Pettiway, junior Ruthie Zieverink, sophomores Adriana Gonzalez, Esbeydy Bautista and Morgan Fields each scored a goal. Rachel Creech also had two assists.

Princeton’s Thompson outduels Union’s Ballance

ROSE HILL —  Princeton’s Tyler Thompson won a 3-0 pitchers’ duel against Union High and Matthew Ballance in Tuesday’s 1-A Carolina Conference varsity baseball opener for both teams.

Thompson pitched all seven innings to get the shutout, allowing just four hits while striking out 10. Ballance gave up three hits, walked three and struck out eight. All three of his runs were unearned, coming in the third inning. Scoring were senior Will Gurganious, sophomore Jacob McCain and Thompson. Thompson, sophomore Trace Hickman and senior Kameron Ballance got the only three hits.

The Bulldogs moved to 2-1.

Middle School Baseball

Offensive explosion carries NJ Middle to win

BENSON — The North Johnston Middle School baseball team exploded for five runs in the first inning to win at Meadow Middle, 10-0, on Thursday.

Nine batters got a hit and Michael Linko and Carter House had two hits each. Linko finished 2-2 with two RBIs, a stolen base and two runs scored. House had 2-3 day at the plate with a stolen base, a walk, two RBIs and two runs scored. Jackson King was 2-4 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored.

Gabriel Adams was the starting and winning pitcher with three innings pitched, striking out six while allowing three hits.
