West View’s Jennifer Jordan named top teacher assistant

SMITHFIELD — Teacher Assistant Jennifer Jordan from West View Elementary School was named this year’s Teacher Assistant of the Year during a recent annual banquet.

Teacher assistants work under a teacher’s supervision to give students additional attention and instruction. Chenetra Mangum is principal of West View Elementary in Garner.

Jordan’s coworkers said she serves the school and its students each day with a heart of gladness.

The first runner up for the award was Cynthia Davis from Pine Level Elementary School.

The announcements were made at the annual Johnston County teacher assistant banquet hosted by the Johnston County Teacher Assistants Association; Lisa Soard serves as the association’s president.

The banquet also included recognition of the Teacher Assistant of the Year nominees, schools with 100 percent membership in the TA organization and those who are retiring this year.

Nominees for Teacher Assistant of the Year included Edith Simmons, Benson Elementary; Kyle Byrd East, Clayton Elementary; Shelia Rudd, Cleveland Elementary; Sherry Green, Cooper Academy; Ebone Leach, Glendale-Kenly Elementary; Cynthia Davis, Pine Level Elementary; Paige Kuppler, Polenta Elementary; Pamela McCall, Princeton Elementary, Jan Sullivan, Selma Elementary; Pam Rooks, South Johnston High; Kelly Howell, River Dell Elementary; Terri Hanson, West Clayton Elementary; Jasmine Williams, West Smithfield Elementary; Jennifer Jordan, West View Elementary and Beverly Whitley, Wilson’s Mills Elementary.
