CLAYTON — A single-car crash on Tuesday injured three people and knocked out power to four neighborhoods, the town reported.

The crash happened around 8:30 p.m. on Glen Laurel Road near the entrance to the Summerlyn neighborhood, which is across from East Clayton Community Park.

When they arrived on the scene, emergency crews found a car mangled and a utility pole in three pieces, said town spokeswoman Stacy Beard. Of the three people hurt, one suffered serious injuries, she said. All were taken to a hospital.

The crash knocked out power to 2,500 customers in the Summerlyn, Glen Laurel, Chandler’s Ridge and Forest Glen on the Neuse neighborhookds, Beard said. Because of the rain and the location of the utility pole in a curve, the outage took several hours to repair, she said.

Power came back on at 4:45 a.m., and the town reopened Glen Laurel Road.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
