Aa’Niyah Sherrod helped her Beddingfield High varsity girls basketball team do something last week that the Lady Bruins haven’t done in seven years, making her this week’s Farris & Thomas Law Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week.
Aa’Niyah, a senior wing, pulled down eight rebounds and added two points as the Lady Bruins topped SouthWest Edgecombe to reach the 2-A Eastern Plains Conference tournament championship game, their first such appearance since 2013.
The daughter of Tonya Sherrod of Wilson, Aa’Niyah has a 3.48 GPA at Beddingfield, where she takes honors English. She is a member of Beddingfield’s chapters of National Honor Society and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Aa’Niyah is also a company commander with the Junior ROTC program at the school. She also played volleyball for four years and plans to participate in a spring sport this year.
Aa’Niyah has volunteered her time for Operation Backpack as well as the Wells Elementary book fair and by working the gate at Bruins baseball games.
She has been accepted into North Carolina A&T State University and will continue with the Army National Guard’s ROTC program.
